push up

Summary - Incorporating exercise in daily chores.. A vow

An update on my mother’s condition. Yesterday, I went to KL and brought her over to my place. We then went to the hospital in Kuala Pilah, and she was admitted into the hospital for observation. I will be going there every day to check on her. The last BP check (just after I left the hospital) showed 150/120. Still relatively high.. but hopefully a good sign.

Many factors affected blood pressure, One of which is regular exercise. Exercise does not necessarily means you put on your jogging shoes or hit the gym. The more efficient method is by doing exercise when you are doing house work.

A good example is to avoid using remote control. You will have to get up from the sofa and hit the button manually. I get this example from a tv show “Downsize Me” on Discovery channel. I then started to think of other way to do exercise indirectly at home. Maybe you can add to the list, and together we try to do the items on the list one at a time.

  • Avoid using remote control, get up and switch the channel manually
  • Set up rules, that when you enter your bedroom, you must do 5 push ups.
  • Wash car yourself.. It’s a good exercise. Remember Karate Kid?
  • When you touch a keyboard to blog, set your timer on your handphone for 30 minutes… When the timer rings, you take your skipping rope and do 50 “skipping”. If you forget, no problem.. just do it when you remember.
  • Choose 5 clothes every week and wash it manually. Maybe you can choose those with stubborn stain on the neck area
  • Mop the floor and play some music… maybe you can dance to the music while mopping, the whole work will take a little more time, but you are going to have more fun.
  • Pick one 30 minutes sitcom every week, and exercise while watching the show non stop. You can do crunches, or just some air-punching. Anything as long you sweat and enjoy the show.

/end

I’m very sure that you guys have more creative ways to incorporate exercise in our daily house work. Care to share them here?

————— Personal Note ——————-
I admit that I don’t practice the items in the list. But that is exactly why I put it up here. I will try to do all the 7 items, one for every day in the week.

Monday - remote control day | Tuesday - push ups room day| Wednesday - Wash car (today I’m going to wash the car) |Thusday - 30 minutes of keyboard, 50 skipping | Friday - Wash clothes | Saturday - mop the floor | Sunday - sitcoms

A vow made… come join me :)

Summary - List of ways to generate ideas for blogging

I’m curious.. how do you guys find ideas for your blog? Do you actually spend time thinking of what you want to write, or you just run the notepad program and start writing away what ever come to your mind. Do share ya… I’m very interested to know.

This however is a list of what in my opinion the best method to find ideas for my daily blogging. :) I’m sure your methods will make a great addition to the list

  • Camera - I’m using my handphone as a camera, so whenever there is interesting event, I will be able to snap it. They did say picture is better than a thousand words :)
  • Write away - Like I said just now, run the “Notepad” program and write away. This is my favorite method, because most of the time, I will end up with 3 to 4 posts altogether. They don’t necessarily be finished, but the ideas will be there to be continued at another time. The secret is to never stop writing. Even for backspace… just write away. Try it..
  • Read your previous post - Most of the time, the entries in this blog are all related. For example, we write an entry about a recipe. Wander around with that topic in mind. Some topics that immediately come to mind are like how kitchen can kill you (Safety tips), how to eat and still lose weight (always a popular post), recipe to a full life etc etc.
  • Monitor your categories/label - For readers, categories will be a great way to browse through your blog, For you, you can see which ones you haven’t done. Like myself, sometime I can see that certain categories have fewer entries than another. So write about that category. Taking this blog for example, Scam Awareness is a very new category so I will need to focus more on populating that category
  • Television - Do you know how many people were behind the scene of every tv series in the tv? Writers are meeting all day long to come up with a good or original story. So sometimes when it may good to watch some tv and not only enjoying the story, but try to come up with more stories from it. For example, I love the sitcoms like Everybody Loves Raymond.. Definitely we know the drama behind every character in the show. And from that alone, we can blog about relationship between in-laws, or the natural jealousy between brothers etc. The world is there for us to learn from.

Believe me that there are thousands of way we can develop our ideas. Sometimes, we wait for it. Sometimes we have to work to get it, And the same as everything else, in order for a machine to work, we need to know how the machine work first. That goes the same thing to ideas generation.

I kept the list short not only to to keep my entry short.. but I would like to hear how you develop your ideas… Where do you get them? family? dream? Do tell :)

————- Personal Note ————-
Never underestimate our mind… It can go far and it can go there (showing to about one meter distance) :)

bus

A bus stops and two Italian men get on.They sit down and engage in An animated conversation. The lady sitting behind them ignores them at first, but her attention is galvanized when she hears one of the men say the following:

“Emma come first. Den I come. Den two asses come together. I come once-a-more. Two asses, they come together again. I come again and pee twice. Then I come one lasta time.”

“You foul-mouthed sex obsessed swine,”retorted the lady indignantly.”In this country….we don’t speak aloud in public places about our sex lives……… ”

“Hey, coola down lady,” said the man. “Who talkin’ abouta sexa? I’m a justa tellin’ my frienda how to spella ‘Mississippi’.”

/end :)

Lesson learnt -

  • No eavesdropping
  • Some people just have accent, so when we heard them wrong, we probably were. (I’m not so sure whether an Italian speak that way, more like a reggae-like talking don’t you think?)

Enjoy your Sunday everyone

more work

Summary -  The more we work, the more work we found

Wow.. 2 days of maintenance.. And still so much work to do. I have great plans for this blog. However unlike other pro-blogger, they dedicated all their time to blogging. I unfortunately still have a long way to go.

Isn’t it weird sometimes, when the more we work on a thing, the more work we found need to be done. For example, we were to service a car.. It should be a simple oil change, but when checked.. we found out that the tyre has already worn out, the balancing and allignment is all out.

Is the problem not there in the first place? of course no… the problem was definitely there before we want to do the servicing. But they were only detected after we do proper check.

So what should we do? Unfortunately… most people prefer to just ignore the problem by not going to do the servicing at all. This way, they feel like there is no problem with the car and everything will be ok. This is a typical reply - “Buat apa check kereta, nanti mesti jumpa banyak problem.. duit lagi”.. don’t you agree this is our Malaysian attitude?

Now.. is that even safe? logically, the problem will not disappear just because we choose to ignore it, that’s why the problem will worsen at the most critical time, and maybe.. I repeat maybe, that’s why we have so many accident case here in Malaysia

So what actually we should do? These are some ways that I think may help.

  • Regular check must be scheduled. This is a must. Any problem arises must be jotted down and schedule the repair for that arising problem in other time
  • Always prepare our mind to do a bit extra in anything we do, For example, servicing the car might only cause RM50, So prepare RM100 in hand everytime we service the car, should there is any extra repair.
  • That money, if not used, must be put into a “tabung” specifically for car maintenance.
  • Anything.. if seen in its big picture, will look big. So try to see it in pieces. For examples, the car has 12 problems. Maybe we can do one problem per month. Of course the most critical one first. It will not look difficult right?
  • Plan ahead. Problem is often feel very heavy when you suddenly encounter it. Suddenly the foreman tell you that your car is going to explode in 2 weeks if your do not do the repair. Of course you will feel the burden. By planning ahead, you know exactly what to do and what to expect
  • Knowledge knowledge knowledge… Your car may just have some wiring problem, but you change the whole lightbulb just because the foreman told you so. That is not very wise

The list is based on the example of a car. But truthfully, any problem and work is the same. The more work we do, the more work we usually found need to be done, Typical examples are like, studying (the more we study, the more we don’t know), getting to know your fiance (the more you try to figure him/her out, the more you feel clueless) etc. So try to adapt the list into other problems in hand.

Any other ways we can change that Elephant-sized problem to Mouse-sized problem?

—————- Personal Note ————-
My flu has still not recovered. It’s already two days. I guess it started when I have to dive into the river that day to check on a pipe. Heheh it was fun. Getting paid just to “Mandi Sungai” but the river is not that clear, it is more like a “Teh Tarik” sort of river.

I wonder whether there are any job that pay us RM10k for “mandi sungai”? :)
