Summary - Ingatlah orang yang tersayang

This is one of the new advertisment on tv this Hari Raya. The message is simple - Wear your seat belt even when you’re at the backseat. (I laugh out loud watching this the first time hehe)

joke aside, the accidents during this festive season is very frightening. Nobody wants to have an accident. It just happened. Now that fact if true will be even more frightening, don’t you think? It’s like we have no control what so ever to our life.

Accidents do happen. But most of the time, accidents happened because of other factors. I generalize them all under these four factors - the driver (sleepy etc), road condition, car condition and other driver

Knowing this, we should know how to avoid accidents

Summary - The formation of “Baju Raya Recycling Club”

I was chatting with uncleJ about jokingly forming a recycling club. Not to recycle waste, but to recycle the old “baju raya”. It would be a great club with so many activities don’t you think? Just imagine the cash we save.

So then I started thinking of other ways we can reduce the expenditure of this year’s Hari Raya. I know for certain you guys must have more brilliant ideas on how to further save money on Hari Raya, please share ya… maybe this club can be realized after all :)

Please note that wearing brand new clothes to celebrate Hari Raya is actually a “sunat”. I’m just suggesting recycling if the old clothes is still in good condition or maybe we are on a tight budget. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Well here’s what I can come up so far

1) Plan your travelling
Back home, we always buy ice and newspaper after Solat Aidulfitri, this way we don’t need to waste the fuel just to get ice or newspaper on separate occasion. Similarly, plan your visit to your friends’ houses. Going to Sungai Petani then Alor Setar and again to Sungai Petani is really poor planning. :)

2) Buy auctioned kuih raya
Kuih raya is the essence of Hari Raya, so I will never suggest not buying / making them. But for those who buy cake or kuih raya (kuih tunjuk), maybe we can buy them as late as possible. Every year, my family will be excited to go buy those “kuih tunjuk” at midnight of the last day of fasting. It is said that everything will be auctioned off at ridiculously low price. However, almost every year, my family will give up and prefer going to bed early hehe :) (talk only)

3) Reduce or stop buying firecrackers
This is again a sensitive matter. Hari Raya is actually meant for children. They are the ones that enjoy it the most. And what I enjoyed when I was one of them was playing firecrackers. Back then we had millions (exaggerating) of types. So this it totally up to you. Today there’s already one case of firecrackers exploding the fingers of two children (Berita Harian 1st Oct).

My suggestion if you really must play, is to reduce the amount drastically. It is better if we don’t play it at all. Those children with the finger hurt surely don’t want the accident to happen, but it did happened to them. So there’s no reason to let our children have the same risk. Preferably I suggest to not buy.. they’re just not worth it.

/end list

Hari Raya is one of the most awaited day for us muslim. And most of the time, the celebration is supposed to be grand and better every year. This is where it is wrong. The whole idea of Aidilfitri is not about celebrating the end of Ramadhan (where we can take revenge on inhibiting our desire and go on a shopping spree). I’ll try to elaborate on that in my coming Ramadhan Tribute Series

I now opened the club for registeration. Anybody can join in but in order to join, you have to each pay me RM10 (joking). No la…. To join, just share with us how else can we save during this Hari Raya.

————–Personal Note————-
Let me be the first to wish you all Selamat Hari Raya.. Maaf Zahir Batin. Since I can’t send all of you personal “kad raya”, this will be it :) Please forgive me if there is anything I wrote that may offend you. In the end, I’m here to make friends… and I am grateful to Allah for introducing me to you. so again, may everyone has the best Raya ever!!Aidilfitri mood is in the air!!!

happy

Summary - Tips to go from sad to happy

So what do you do to be happy back after being sad? It’s Wednesday.. and in here, we’re supposed to be happy on Wednesday :)I was walking around the mill, and come up with these 10 steps on how to be happy. I know I will…. How about you? Do you find they will work?

1) Let all our sadness out. Mourn is the better word. When we are sad… just be sad, cry if you want. But before all that, make a deal with yourself. That you can cry and be sad for as long as you want, but when you’re done, you’re done. No more sadness. (of course don’t talk to yourself in public… people will get the wrong impression eheh)

2) Watch a sadder movie. This is a trick I always found useful. If you were broke, with no money.. just watch “Bersamamu” on TV3 and see poorer condition. You will immediately feel so much better. When life sometimes is very harsh on you… just know that they are more unfortunate people out there.

3) Do what ever things that make you happy. I don’t know about you, but as for now… surfing blogs and writing seems to make me smile :) So that’s what I’m doing now. Can I ask? What things make you happy?

4) Remember the last time you’re happy.. I mean really happy. The kind of happiness that when you think of it, you immediately smile and laugh. (well a smile will do). For me… I just simply remembered the time when my brothers and I played our daily game of “Main-main” when we were kids. We created this imaginative game ourselves. All three of us, would pick a super power and played the character. hehe I’m sure you have your own happy memory that’s just as interesting.

5) Watch kids. I always laughed when I babysit them. Sometimes, if I’m lucky enough.. I will be able to record those funny act from them. FYI America’s Funniest Home Video is my all time favorite, especially the children videos :)

6) Share your happiness with friends. Make this a practice. whenever you’re happy.. share them with friends. Happiness is very infectious. So who knows you’re actually the person who brought happiness to that friend of yours.

7) To offer other people a smile or touch them with your positive values. People will feel appreciated and happy. Knowing that you make someone else happy is usually what make us happy. - Contributed by Noushy,

8] Take a deep breath and smile. Not for anyone else, but for yourself. It has to start somewhere… and a smile is a great way to start. - Contributed by filantera

9) Do nothing. If you are actually saddened by a problem, and you’ve tried everything but to no avail. Maybe the best option is to let it go.. a do-nothing approach - Contributed by Azuwachan

10) Make others happy. Like charity work, surprise a friend or help our friends in need. Usually we are what we are surrounded with. Happy environment will definitely makes a happier you - Contributed by Syahidatul

11) Play with cats or other pets. It has been researched and proven that physical contact with pets is very stress relieving. Of course by physical contact means treating them well.. not hitting them or anything. - Contributed by Syahidatul

12) Dance. Dancing is actually how our body express itself, usually to the mood we are having. By dancing when you are sad, it is just another way of letting it all go. And you will definitely feel better - Contributed by aRa

13) Smile and have people smile at you back. This is really satisfying especially when you just help them with a favor. - Contributed by diha

/end list

I’m sure we all have our own way to be happier. Care to share yours.. They will be updated in the post by the end of the day :)

* Thanx to my friends, I’ve compiled their suggestions in the list. :) A more detailed explanation is available in the comment section. Feel free to browse them

dream
Summary - The secret is detailing

I have a dream, to save RM12,000 by the end of the year.

We always have this kind of resolution very early in a year. By the end of the year, we usually already forget the resolution entirely and start a new one. Where do we go wrong? and why am I talking about resolution when it’s no where near the 1st of January? :)

It’s because, there should never be a specific date for planning your future. It is more achievable and easier if we keep reviewing them all year long.

Oh ya, so where do we go wrong? The reason our resolution always left incomplete is because we never plan the details.

1) See achievement as things you can visualize

Confused? well don’t be, what I’m saying is that we must always know what we want. If we want to be successful, define what do we meant by successful, is it money? if yes.. then how much money? when should we have that amount of money?

In short, instead of saying we want to be successful, detail it with another format, maybe - “I want to have RM10,000 by 31st December in cash”

Of course there are other definition of success, the above are only examples. Maybe you can say this, “I want to reduce my weight to 60kg by 31st December”, or “I want to finish 2 books, both done in 2 months.”

Note : Set realistic goals.. you just can’t dream of saving RM1 million, when you only earn RM5K per month,

2) Go for details

Let me take the dream to save RM12,000 by the end of the year. So don’t stop there, how are you going to save RM12K? break it down, you will need to save RM1000 per month. Ask again, how to save RM1000 per month? This will be very tedious, I assure you. But if you cannot save RM1000 per month, how on earth are you going to achieve that RM12K by year end?

Check all your expenditure, where can you reduce.. maybe you don’t need Astro after all, since you just don’t have the time to watch, That would already be RM100 saved. Maybe change your postpaid line to prepaid. Check these things.

If you hit a dead end, when you have just squeezed everything and still not enough to save RM1000 per month, change your end of year target. Maybe reduce it to RM9000.

It is not my intention to describe how to save money. What I’m presenting here is that, to achieve that target, we need to breakdown to the very detail on how to achieve it.

That goes the same to all target, whether to reduce weight, or to get that promotion. Anything! Let’s do this first, shall we?

Anyway, what’s your dream? what do you want to achieve from this last 4 months of 2007? Care to share?

————— Personal Note ————————–
One of my first dream achieved was to buy a pc. I dreamt it for a long time and when I checked my saving, it was only RM100 above. I was frustrated. Then only I realized this method from my reading. And I went for a very sudden change in my lifestyle. No more going to movie, or weekend trip to Ipoh. My diet also changed to save. Alhamdulillah, not long (still about a year) after that, I bought a decent PC priced at RM1600.

Basically you want it, you have to do something to get it. :)
