On walking into the factory, the Managing Director noticed a young guy leaning against the wall, doing nothing. He approached the young man and calmly said to him, “How much do you earn?”

The young man was quite amazed that he was asked such a personal question, he replied, none the less, “I earn RM2000 a month, Sir. Why?”

Without answering, the MD took out his wallet and removed RM6000 cash and gave it to the young man and said, “Around here I pay people for working, not for standing around looking pretty! Here is your 3 months salary, now GET OUT and don’t come back”.

The young man turned around and was quickly out of sight.

Noticing a few onlookers, the MD said in a very upset manner, “And that applies for everybody in this company!!”.

He approached one of the onlookers and asked him, “Who’s the young man that I just fired?”

He replied “He was the pizza delivery man, Sir…!!”

Lesson learnt

  • Know your staff, You might save yourself three months of their salary
  • But for an MD, it is impossible to recognize all the staff, So, do ask for details before making any decision.

————— Personal Note ————————–
One of my job is giving out salary to the workers in the mill. For your information, the salary was given cash, and it is very important for me to know the workers by face. Hm during my early days here when I just got transfered from Johor, I don’t recognize any of the workers. But I have to recognize each of them ASAP or I may wrongly give the salary to someone else. So what I did, is to call the Union Leader there and let him introduce the workers to me. I will take my time chat a bit with each of them, trying conciously to repeat their name throughout the 15 second conversation. Then for the rest of the week, when ever I go down to the mill, I will greet each of them by name. Guess what.. I remember all 80 plus workers name in 2 weeks 🙂

People like it when you call them by name. hm do you guys have any other tips I can use to remember the name?

wowowoow…lucky the pizza man!!Well..there’s a lesson to be learnt there…

What happened was irreversible and the hikmah is for us to be more careful in our actions not allowing ego to overwrite mind…

And yezz, Banji, if you are the MD hahhaa know your staff better,in order to get to know them well (or atleast their names and faces)other than formal meetings, you could invite them for ‘makan2’ or gathering once in a while….the best time is having open house during the Eid!!

i’m really bad in remembering names..the first 3 months in the office.. I was able to remember all the names..but then i went for the 6 months compulsory course .. and when i came back..i had a few names forgoten already…hehe

but now..i’m okay..thanks to a few teambuilding courses we had.. 😀

i used to associated people’s names to something unique to remember them.. e.g “ina meletup” since her name is ina and she works in the explosives and fireworks unit..hihi

i guess the best way to remember names is to be extra friendly, talk to them as often as possible kan?
