Summary – There will ALWAYS be other solution

Yesterday, I rewrite a story about two stones and a marriage. This is the continuation of the story..

Well, here is what she did. She chosed one bag and drew out the stone. Without looking at it, she fumbled and let it fall onto the stone-filled ground where it immediately became lost among all the other stones. “Oh, how clumsy of me,” she said. “But never mind, if you look into the bag for the one that is left, you will be able to tell which stone I picked.”

Since the remaining stone was black, they had to assume that she had picked the white one. And since the moneylender dared not admit his dishonesty, the girl cleverly had not only avoid being married to the money lender, her father’s debt was also forfeited.

To tell you the truth, I had also chosen the first choice which is to self sacrifice 🙂

The moral of the story is not to be creative. Not everyone is creative to come up with such a clever plan. This story actually shows how our mind really work most of the time.

When we encounter a problem, which seems like a dead end, two things will influence us in making the decision

The Easiest
Obviously the easiest decision is to give in and marry the moneylender. At least the father’s debt is settled. Exposing him will not bring any good, and thus the more difficult decision

The Surrounding
I deliberately set the keyword to be “Self-sacrifice”. And I believe, when there is an answer proposed, our mind will usually close any other way of seeing the problem, and stick to the answer proposed. The more we think about it, the more confident we will be that the answer is that.

You can try it yourself. When you want to buy a television, the more you think about whether the television is needed, the more you will be convinced that buying television is the right things to do.

Why is that? it is because, we were not actually thinking of other alternative to television, we were actually persuading our conscious to buy.

Summary – Lateral Thinking

This story I picked up from the net quite a long time ago, and thus I believe most of you might have come across it. However, for the benefit of those who haven’t read it, I’m going to rewrite it here

In a small village, there lived a farmer and his daughter. The farmer somehow had owed a huge sum of money from the local money lender, and he wasn’t able to pay him back.

This money lender however had a crush with the farmer’s daughter and saw the situation as a chance for him to marry the farmer’s daughter. So he proposed to the farmer, to allow him to marry his daughter, or pay up. The farmer obviously disagreed.

The money lender then suggested to let the decision to fate. He will put two stones in two empty bags, a white colored stone and a black colored one. And the daughter will choose one bag.

If the bag contained a black stone, the girl will have to marry the money lender and the debt will be forfeited. If the girl end up with a white stone, she doesn’t have to marry the money lender but the debt will still be forfeited. But if she doesn’t choose any bag, the farmer will be thrown into jail.

The farmer finally agreed. The money lender bent over to pick up two stones, however as he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up TWO black stones and put them in both bag. Which means, which ever bag she chosed, she will have to marry the money lender.

What would she do?
a) choose anyway.. at least her father will be free of debt
b) dispose the cheating money lender, they will still be in debt but at least they are not tricked
c) etc

self sacrifice… that’s a very noble thing to do. but how many can actually do it? Is sending the mrs to help her sister can be considered as self sacrifice? heheh

It’s bachelor day no 2, what I’ve been doing? 🙂 no la, I’m not the clubbing type, safe to say.. I am spending my day by indoor, with my new baby (the laptop).. tweaking it heh… I’m so a geek

Summary – Why get into trouble

I am in pain! not any kind of pain, the kind of pain that you suddenly do not have any desire to eat, all food taste ordinary..

I bit my tongue….

Do you remember the song P.Ramlee sang in the movie – Tiga Abdul? “Sedangkan Lidah Lagi Tergigit, Apa Pula Suami Isteri?”. Roughly translated, even the tongue sometimes bitten, so does the relationship between husband and wife. Which means difference in opinion between husband and wife is very normal and will happen.

It occurs to me, the tongue obviously will be bitten once in a while, because it is located right in the vicinity of teeth. So it’s no surprise if the tongue get bitten. The risk is always there.

Relationship wise, arguing and difference of opinion is just as normal, but maybe unlike the teeth and the tongue, we can just minimize the risk of having an argument. Maybe by setting up some rules to follow. A few that comes to mind would be like

• Family will always come first. So it’s a big no no to ask your spouse to choose between you and his/her family.
• Some people may have a few sensitive issues that he does not like to be brought up. For example, let say the boyfriend doesn’t like it when you comparing him with your previous boyfriend. Then avoid it, Why get into trouble, right?
• The girlfriend hate it when the boyfriend criticize her cooking, so guys.. Just don’t go there. 🙂

These are only a few examples I enlisted, Feel free to add some more rules.

In the end, the whole objective of having a relationship is for you to support, complement and provide comfort to each other. If there is a possibility of avoiding crisis or argument, just do that 🙂

I just sent the mrs to Bangi yesterday. She will be there to help her sister with a secret project or something. When it comes to family, we should always give way..

Summary – 5 Shopping Mistakes

Based on my buying-the-laptop the other day, these are some of the mistake I believe we often do when shopping for an item. (You can’t get a more direct introduction than that hehe)

1)Buying at the first shop
Here’s the scenario. There are a lot of shops selling laptop, you approach one and you were given quite a good offer and you take it. This is mistake #1. There will always be better deal at shop #2 🙂

2) Buying because you’re tired
Pc Fair or shopping complexes are huge places. Because of this, most of the time, people will buy things at the last stop, just because they’re tired to go back to shop #27. In my opinion, if you’re tired, just take a rest. Buying things when our mind is clouded is a big mistake. We could end up buying a massager chair instead of a laptop 🙂

Last Friday, there was this one seller who actually use this trick. He clearly said that there will be a mysterious gift waiting if I bought from him, and he said that he will only tell me what the gift is when I come back after my surveying. See… if I did come back, I will be very tired, and those offer will look very tempting

3) Buying because you plan to buy
The scenario: You had actually planned to buy this laptop, and even took a day off just to properly survey. But it turns out the laptop you’re looking for is not available. What would you do? People often do the mistake of thinking he must buy something since he had spent the time. So since the laptop is not available, maybe he bought a new wardrobe.

Never buy for the sake of buying. If the items you’re looking for is not there, postpone the whole shopping until it’s there.

4) Fail to use your buying power
When you have the money, act like you’re having them. Ask question, be demanding and haggle. When you’re actually buying, you will have that power. Use it.. because the seller will be using their power, which is trying to make you part with your money thinking that you are actually making profit out of them

5) No research
This is the biggest mistake done while shopping. You have to research, irregardless of what you want to buy. You need to know :

• what you actually want
• what you actually need
• what you should expect

You can’t go wrong, Google will be a great way to start

One thing for sure, shopping is really a great way to enjoy yourself, with that much purchasing power. hm next item on my things to buy would be a house, which probably will be achieved in 4-5 years from now. Hope so… 🙂
