Summary – 7 Mistakes of Making Resolution

Can you guess what is the most popular question these few days? To save you the time – the question is “What is your new year resolution?”

Now what do you think the most popular answer? It would be that there is no new resolution, the present ones are still not accomplished.

Why do you think resolution is often not accomplished? Please help me compile the mistakes we usually make… This is what I can come up so far

Mistake 1 – Impossible Resolution
Aiming to save RM100,000 when we are only being paid RM5000 per month is an example of an impossible aim. Maybe we can do it another way, let say, we can steadily save RM1000 per month, then aim to save RM10,000 for the year. I’m very sure we can achieve that.

Mistake 2 – Forgotten Resolution
This one is a sure thing. How many of us actually remember what it is we wish to achieve by the end of the year? forget end of the year.. how about by the end of February. It’s sad but resolution almost always not achieved simply because we forget there is one. So write clearly what your resolutions are, and paste it where we will be able to see everyday.

Mistake 3 – General Resolution
“I want to be fitter next year”, with this kind of general statement, obviously it will be the same statement every year. Put in some details in it. Maybe like this, “I want to compete and finish a marathon in 2008”.

Mistake 4 – Negative Resolution
Resolution is supposed to be for self improvement. If a resolution work the other way around, I called it negative resolution 🙂 An example is like when you aim to start smoking next year to look cooler. If you want to be cooler, get an aircond (an anti-smoking joke hehe)

Mistake 5 – Dependent Resolution
Try to avoid these type of resolution, the kind that need other people participation for it to work, like quit smoking if you can persuade your spouse to join the program. If he/she start smoking, the tendency is you will too. So start small, more importantly start with yourself first.

Mistake 6 – No-Deadline Resolution
The problem with no deadline, is that procrastination will kicks in, “Ah, I’ll start exercising tomorrow lah”, “Next week, I will definitely start”. Before you know it, it’s already 2020 🙂

Mistake 7 – No Resolution
How can a resolution be fulfilled if there is none to start with. What ever people are telling you, resolution making is very important. Don’t enter a new year without having none. A simple “I want to be a better me” will suffice. Now put details to it.

– I wonder –
What’s your resolution next year? And how do you wish to accomplish it? 🙂

————- Personal Note ————-
I’m happy to be back blogging. And I have big plans for the blog next year. Mainly it will be involving you, my fellow friends. Hope you will still supporting the blog then. Your support and energy is what inspire me to write

My new year resolution – I’ll write it down in the additional ideas later.. 🙂

Summary – Find that joy and excitement

Aidil Adha is approaching. InsyaAllah it will be celebrated here in Malaysia on the 20th of December. Aren’t you excited? 🙂

How many of us are actually excited about it? Counting down the days.. or planning what to do on that day.. I’m quite sure that the answer is just not many.

I wonder why? Why can’t we be excited on the day we are actually supposed to be excited? One reason I can think of, is that we had outgrown the celebration..

During our childhood, Hari Raya is always our happiest day. There’s so much to do, with new clothes, firecrackers, the “Duit raya” etc. Now that we are older (ehem to DaPocket), all those things that excite us no longer have any effect.

New clothes might have some effect but if we are short of cash, buying new clothes is just out of the question. firecrackers are now just for the kids, and adults going around asking for “Duit raya” is frown upon in some culture 🙂

It is true that we had ourgrown the excitement from all those things. It is unavoidable. This is where we can go wrong, Never leave it like that. We now need to find another way to enjoy our Hari Raya.

If previously we are happy wearing the new clothes, now find that joy in seeing our children wearing new clothes, Walking around handsomely/beautifully like a model, smiling all the way. If that doesn’t make you smile, I don’t know what will 🙂

Again.. We have to look for the excitement. It will never come looking for you. An example to illustrate is a husband and a wife. One day they will feel like there’s no spark in their love life. They are so used to each other, they didn’t feel the passion and heat like when they first in love. Do you think they should just let it be? or start having affair? Of course not.. They should find out how to heat up their relationship, maybe a second romantic honeymoon
or a simple rose by the bed 🙂

– I wonder –
How do you enjoy your hari raya? Maybe you can share it here…

———— Personal Note —————–
Today I will be going back to Bangi after work, My living-like-a-bachelor day is over. And starting from tomorrow until 25th, I will be on leave (from work.. not from blogging hehe)

What I love most about Hari Raya is when I am able to get together with my two brothers, the mama and the maktuk 🙂 that is all I need for my Hari Raya

Summary – There will ALWAYS be other solution

Yesterday, I rewrite a story about two stones and a marriage. This is the continuation of the story..

Well, here is what she did. She chosed one bag and drew out the stone. Without looking at it, she fumbled and let it fall onto the stone-filled ground where it immediately became lost among all the other stones. “Oh, how clumsy of me,” she said. “But never mind, if you look into the bag for the one that is left, you will be able to tell which stone I picked.”

Since the remaining stone was black, they had to assume that she had picked the white one. And since the moneylender dared not admit his dishonesty, the girl cleverly had not only avoid being married to the money lender, her father’s debt was also forfeited.

/end story

To tell you the truth, I had also chosen the first choice which is to self sacrifice 🙂

The moral of the story is not to be creative. Not everyone is creative to come up with such a clever plan. This story actually shows how our mind really work most of the time.

When we encounter a problem, which seems like a dead end, two things will influence us in making the decision

The Easiest
Obviously the easiest decision is to give in and marry the moneylender. At least the father’s debt is settled. Exposing him will not bring any good, and thus the more difficult decision

The Surrounding
I deliberately set the keyword to be “Self-sacrifice”. And I believe, when there is an answer proposed, our mind will usually close any other way of seeing the problem, and stick to the answer proposed. The more we think about it, the more confident we will be that the answer is that.

You can try it yourself. When you want to buy a television, the more you think about whether the television is needed, the more you will be convinced that buying television is the right things to do.

Why is that? it is because, we were not actually thinking of other alternative to television, we were actually persuading our conscious to buy.

– I wonder –
Do you have any other stories alike? problem with a clever solution.. Do share

————— Personal Note —————-
Please don’t feel cheated with this.. In my opinion, the better we understand how our mind work, the better we can use them and not get cheated by them 🙂

Bachelor day no 3 – Today will be spent servicing my car, Going to drive to Kedah this Raya Haji.. and some blog maintenance, have a nice day everyone!

Summary – Lateral Thinking

This story I picked up from the net quite a long time ago, and thus I believe most of you might have come across it. However, for the benefit of those who haven’t read it, I’m going to rewrite it here

In a small village, there lived a farmer and his daughter. The farmer somehow had owed a huge sum of money from the local money lender, and he wasn’t able to pay him back.

This money lender however had a crush with the farmer’s daughter and saw the situation as a chance for him to marry the farmer’s daughter. So he proposed to the farmer, to allow him to marry his daughter, or pay up. The farmer obviously disagreed.

The money lender then suggested to let the decision to fate. He will put two stones in two empty bags, a white colored stone and a black colored one. And the daughter will choose one bag.

If the bag contained a black stone, the girl will have to marry the money lender and the debt will be forfeited. If the girl end up with a white stone, she doesn’t have to marry the money lender but the debt will still be forfeited. But if she doesn’t choose any bag, the farmer will be thrown into jail.

The farmer finally agreed. The money lender bent over to pick up two stones, however as he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up TWO black stones and put them in both bag. Which means, which ever bag she chosed, she will have to marry the money lender.

What would she do?
a) choose anyway.. at least her father will be free of debt
b) dispose the cheating money lender, they will still be in debt but at least they are not tricked
c) etc

– I wonder –
What would you do?

————– Personal Note ——————
self sacrifice… that’s a very noble thing to do. but how many can actually do it? Is sending the mrs to help her sister can be considered as self sacrifice? heheh

It’s bachelor day no 2, what I’ve been doing? 🙂 no la, I’m not the clubbing type, safe to say.. I am spending my day by indoor, with my new baby (the laptop).. tweaking it heh… I’m so a geek
